Nine weeks to go

.“Gallop apace, you fiery-footed steeds…”
– Juliet

Welcome to Podcast Shakespeare. If you’ve found this website, you’re one of the first, but I surely hope you won’t be the last. Starting in July 2017, I’ll be taking a detailed listening tour through the works and life of one William Shakespeare, the Bard of Stratford-upon-Avon. Among the “antres vast and deserts idle”, we will look at where Shakespeare found his ideas, what his audience saw on stage, and what each of his plays and poems meant to people throughout the last 450 years. We’ll pay homage to the countless visionary directors, actors, and creatives who have examined his works – from the faithful to the heretics – and explore some of the more obscure niches of Shakespeariana, from novelty whodunnits to the apocrypha. But, of course, we’ll also check in with some of the all-time greats. Burton and Taylor, Olivier, Dench, Branagh, McKellen, Tennant, Lapotaire, Mirren, Ashcroft, Welles, Godard, Nunn, Rylance, Shaw, Taymor… the list is truly endless.

.The project begins in mid-July with The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and I hope to go through the whole of the canon, making stops at locations as diverse as Venus and Adonis, Othello, Twelfth Night and Richard III. I hope to have you along for the ride. In the meantime, follow me on Twitter or Facebook, or leave a comment on the blog. Researching and creating a podcast is a lot of work, and I’ll look forward to hearing from you as we go. As Prospero says, “’tis a chronicle of day by day”. Thankyou.
